Malignant Tunnels: The new dungeons, the Malignant Tunnels, can be added as pseudo-cellars, spawning as a cellar alternative in certain locations, increasing the pool of cellar content. Storyline/Unique Boss Fight: The questline can be modified to not be reliant on seasonal mechanics and introduced as a multi-zone storyline, additionally the Invokers for Varshan can be moved to the Occultist, considering beyond the first step the principal ingredient is Sigil Dust, shared with the Nightmare Sigils. Season 1 has the following season only mechanics/content not advertised as being brought forward to season 2:Įach of these has concepts that can be integrated into the base game that adds a net positive without running the risk of early mechanical bloat. As it’s the first season, I don’t expect huge mechanical advancements as those would have just been introduced into the base game. This is not enough that I feel Season 1 advanced the game. This creates a sense of ownership for the player over the content, having done it seasonally and seen it birthed, and a sense of proprietary knowledge that rewards season to season play. ![]() At the end of each season, a player should come away ‘feeling’ like they are taking a part of the game forward with them, even if it is content they have to complete again on each future character. For example, the addition of quests which are then available for future characters, new dungeons, storylines, events. Knowledge of how a boss works, or developing preferred content for leveling, are excellent rewards for a player that they gain from seasonal content that can be brought forward.īecause a player does not develop their character over time as in other ‘RPGs’, they instead can theoretically glom onto the development of the world and have that be a facsimile of development they can identify with vicariously. Since players will not see individual character advancement from season to season due to the feature of starting a new character for each one, players can get this sense of empowerment by taking knowledge from the season (how to do mechanics) which they can bring to future characters on the eternal realm or future seasonal characters. The season highlighted some further weaknesses in the core game that future content development can help overcome.
